Delay out of my reach – Prem Kumar

    [Interview by IndiaGlitz]
    Wednesday, April 01, 2009
The lovely star of Kannada cinema ‘Prem Kumar’ growing enormously from film to film especially after super hit film ‘Nenapirali’ says there are many things that are not in the control of an actor. The making, films of my own clashing for releases and delay in release of some films are not in my hands. I am not able to get convincing answer for it says Prem Kumar in an exclusive interview with

Here are the excerpts of an interview:

Why is this planning fails as for as releases are concerned?

Nothing can be planned by an actor like me. As a matte of fact my ‘Januma Janumadhalli’ finished long ago should have come prior to this week ‘Ghautham’.

At one stage two of your films were ready to hit the screen?

That is true. ‘Ghautham’ was very planned by Synergy Images and Soorappa Babu Guidance was excellent. Normally my films complete from 40 to 75 days. For ‘Jothegara’ I have given 120 days call sheet to Ashwini Ramprasad but he was not able to complete. It is not my fault. Still one introduction song and Yana Gupta portion is not completed. ‘Ghautham’ was very systematic and they have right to release and I cannot poke my nose. ‘My route is correct. It is un-harmful’.

What was the fault from ‘Jothegara’ makers?

No discipline shooting and completion of post production plus the regular stalling of payments. I don’t say the film is not good. ‘Jothegara’ my second combination after ‘Jothe Jotheyali’ with talented Ramya is having a good subject. ‘Jothegara’ is a very good commercial entertainer. How can I become responsible for something I am not part to it? Being very straight forward is wrong is it?

Compared to your previous films Nenapirali, Honganasu, Jothe Jotheyali, Pallakki, Gunavantha how different is ‘Ghautham’?

‘Ghautham’ is a family package. There are lovely songs from Gurukiran. It is lavishly made and Suresh Krishna story and screenplay is interesting. It is family sentiment film. I answer the media that wrote for my ‘Pallakki’ that I cannot cry. There is very good logic. The scene where I carry Kausalya in my hands has created lot of curiosity.

You are very definite about your payment it seems?

Yes I am. There is no value for the humbleness and good attitude some times. According to the agreement I demand what I am supposed to get. Each one does his job properly in this cinema business without cheap tactics then everything will be good.

Why is this ‘Januma Janumadhalu’ in the cans?

I am able to ascertain the fact from producer Ramesh Yadav. He is waiting for some good time.

What are the films in queue for you?

I have signed an action force cinema in the direction of Gurudut for producer K Manju. ‘Mungaru Male’ Krishnappa and C.R. Manohar are the other producers approached me.

After one year and two months you film is coming up. Do you have anything to say?

This Prem Kumar will not accept any ordinary stuff. ‘Ghautham’ is a good family package. Switch off the TV and come to theatres to watch ‘Ghautham’ you would get good cinema is what I can say.

You have rejected lot of films in the last four years?

I have turned down 70 films coming in my way. Most the scripts were not good. Yet I say I know only this profession. I have to earn from this profession to support my family members.

I believe recently Karnataka Police stopped your vehicle….

That is because of the Kannada number plate I have for my vehicle. I am a proud Kannadiga. I was asked to stop for bearing the Kannada number plate for four times. I convinced the police in all the time.

Any day you thought of the situation of audience who come and watch Kannada films?

I know what you are telling. Most of the theatres are offering bad conditions. The theatres are decreasing. Theatre managements think of constructing complex instead of running a theatre. We need the government support for setting many flaws.

What is your expectation to Kannada film industry from government?

Cinema industry in Karnataka is also very big. The government should support in all respects like in adjacent states. We are not able to bring in Goonda Act to tackle piracy. Annually the government should offer packages for infrastructure coming up in State.
