 The second combination of siblings V. Ravichandran and Balaji (after debut of Balaji in ‘Aham Premasmi’ produced and directed by V. Ravichandran) has nothing much to boast except a few twists and turns. The movie lacks quickness in narration that makes the audience yawn inside the cinema halls. The splendid camera work by Joshi and three lovely tunes from Harikrishna plus the brilliant performance from Balaji and Kanniha save the grace of this cinema.
Director Govindu, brother of reputed director S. Narayan fails to give a healthy comedy and screenplay of Ilakyan creates certain interest over this mediocre film ‘Raja Kumari’.
Raja (Balaji) is waiting since four years to get the nod from Kumari (Kanniha) who is with a child pretending as widow. It is her self inflicted punishment for the wrong move of her father, the Zamindar of the village. By mistake and on sheer love for his daughter Kumari, the Zamindar murders a music teacher Ravi. After the music teacher gets murdered, Kumari adopts his small kid and decides to bring up the child without getting married all her life. It all happens on the day of Kumari’s marriage and the boy is none other than Raja. Raja understands the situation clearly and he starts liking Kumari immensely. He is not ready to marry anyone else. In such scenario, the daughter of an affluent Avinash – Bubbly wants to marry Raja at any cost. Understanding the wish of her daughter Avinash takes some foul step that lands Raja in a pitiable condition. In the eyes of Kumari, he is a culprit. But things take a serious turn when Raja decides to walk out from the locality. Whether Kumari and the music teacher’s child unite with Raja? You have to watch it in the theaters.
 Out of the three films he has done, Balaji has given a better performance this time around. The costume selection is suits him aptly. He dances well and emote emotions, expressions convincingly. V. Ravichandran as music teacher makes a cake walk in the short cameo. It is Kanniha and Nikitha attracts on the screen. Srinivasamurthy as Zamindar is ever cool and composed.
V. Harikrishna has tuned three lovely songs and cinematography by Joshi has done his job in ‘Josh’. The outdoor locations are a pleasant treat to watch.
An average film for the family audience!
