 Life is automatic says the Kannada film ‘Auto’. The fact is that ‘Auto’ is problematic to watch. It is such a long boring and awkward ride. The new director and producer have no knowledge of tight screenplay. While it is the sickness of director Mallikarjuna Muthalgeri to explain everything in one film it is wrong assumption of the producer Mahendra Munoth that he can take the second half of the film on his shoulders.
The script appears to be rewritten version of Cheran’s ‘Autograph’ but that Kannada version ‘My Autograph’ is already super hit. The dilly dallying and later settling down after defeat in life is the extra addition in the film ‘Auto’.
Sathya (Sathya) is a disenchanted chap in the college. He fails in the love matter and also in the examination. Sandhya (Shravani) his fiancé leaves the locality while the secret lover of Sathya the quiet Jahnavi (Swarna) disappears. In the family of Sathya his parents look for a match and it is shown in the cinema after two years Sathya’s better half Roshani (Roshani) leaves him leaving the daughter with him. Reason – Sathya running finance business from his father’s money is locked in financial tension. The parents of Sathya leave for Kashi and die in a road accident. Fed up in life Sathya with a young daughter is left stranded as his house is auctioned. At this point of time Sathya finds the social servant (played by producer Mahendra Munoth) to his rescue. Sathya is given an auto to lead his life. It is because Sathya’s father had helped this social servant. Sathya deceived by a financier gives up his revenge for the sake of his daughter. Now the scene is Sathya’s first lover Sandhya returns to city. She is a widow now. Sandhya’s parents urge Sathya to marry her but he declines. Sathya is liked by a teenager who travels in his auto but the secret lover of Sathya in the college days Jahnavi surface. Sathya accepts Jahnavi as his partner in life. Thank god the deserted wife of Sathya does not appear on the scene!
What is great in this script and screenplay you wait for a long time and get nothing? It is high time the younger lot is tuned up properly to save the face of the first time producers.
Sathya is quite OK as a hero but has to struggle a lot make a strong foot hold in cinema. Swarna with serene looks is very attractive. Shravani looks beautiful and Roshni has to improve a lot. The role of Krithika was not required for the film. Srinivasaprabhu and Padma Vasanthi combination is admirable.
The only notable discovery from this film is Vijayakrishna’s music. It is from this film the yesteryears singer Jayachandran returns to Kannada. Thirugo Bhoomiyanu Hinthirugiso Aase….is the melodious song sung by Jayachandran. Jagavella Sukhadha Hindhe….is meaningful and Kannada song Shatha Shatnamanagale….sung by SPB is very touching.
Satish Kumar camera deserved to be better and so is the film. Had the screenplay been very tight and crisp this ‘Auto’ could have stayed in the theatres for long.
