Olave Jeevana Lekkachara - Paucity of ideas!
IndiaGlitz  [Saturday, June 13, 2009]

Ace director Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar has become bankrupt of ideas it seems. For an ancient subject (the story he had written in the 1990’s ‘Bhoomi Gundagidhe’) he has added the Marxist elements and attacks the women via dialogues and characters. There is nothing to laugh about and Nagthi’s narrow minded approach that is a disgrace to Kannada cinema.

One thing is sure the women audience would curse Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar very much after watching this film. Nagathihalli has no business to look feminine gender so carelessly. There are half a dozen remarks in this film that deeply hurts the women folks and obviously they keep away from flocking to the theatres.

Instead of making scathing attack on women Nagthihalli could have concentrated on other issues the Marxism is fighting for. There are only very bad and bad category of women in this world is very heartening. There might be various statements and observations by great leaders on various topics in the society. All cannot be included in the cinema. That too when a director who has built up a very good career in his profession cannot consume such illogical and disturbing statement to his cinema! It is seen as Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar cinema at the outset. On the other hand when Marxist leader’s statements are utilized in the cinema what is the work of a director who claims of story, screenplay and dialogue as credit? He has the effects of brain wash only in this film.

It is the one character of Rangayana Raghu that takes the entire film and charisma of director to wrong path. As long as the people are there to get brain wash such people are there to put the wrong roots. Here in the case of ‘Olave Jeevana Lekkachara’ the miscalculation has happened to the director – primarily because he loses the female audience by attacking them.

Balachander alias Balu (Kitty) is driven by the thoughts of his lecturer when he comes to Hale Kote to complete his final year degree. Balu is so well brain washed that he looks everything in ulterior motive. That is because of the thoughts fed by his lecturer (Rangayana Raghu). Even in the case of his dear friend Rukmini who loves him so much Balu deceive her at the last stage. Eloping with Rukmini’s property Balu settles down in a city and works as Economic lecturer in a college. His continues his irrational and awkward looks at things in the city but that does not work. He notices his lecturer who drew him to false path one day in a well off condition with a child, wife and huge property. Balu realizes that he is driven by wrong statements but it is too late for him when returns to Hale Kote where Rukmini is living.

Kitty with long hair, big spectacle does not look nice. Without these two whenever he appears he is good. His dialogue delivery and understanding of the role is OK. Radhika Pandit in her third Kannada film continues to be a screen stealer for her looks and acting. She has a bright future indeed in Kannada cinema. Rangayana Raghu the man mouthing many illogical dialogues has acted well.

Mano Murthy gives two lively tunes – Mosa Maadi Preethi Madbahudhanna….Nanna Preethiya Gelaya are good in lyrics too. Ajay Vincent has handled the camera very well – in the train, outdoor and interiors he gives very attractive frames to the eyes.

An average stuff from a brilliant director!

Scoring 5/10
