In the game (Aata) of life winning and losing is common. This applies to producer S Shailendra Babu precisely. He has ensured that his son Sumanth has the capabilities for his investment of Rs.5 crores on this film 'Aata'. Father confidence is great and son Sumanth hard work is also appreciable. What about for the masses who come inside the theatres to watch 'Aata'. It is 'Fair and Lovely'. It is fair in narration and contents. It is lovely in action and songs.
Some more corrections for the histrionics and apt shots for the main characters Sumanth Shailender and Vibha Natarajan plus trimming of half an hour of the film and deleting two songs 'Aata' would have been an impressive film.
'Aata' the pride of producer Shailendra Babu for his son Sumanth does not have a big story in it. The aristocratic family Swathi (Vibha Natarajan) and middle class youth Rahul (Sumanth Shailender) immensely in love but the barricade for their life is 'Sister' episode in both the families.
From the marriage hall Sandhya (Krithika) sister of Rahul has eloped and there is absolute tension in the family. On the other hand Swathi after engagement is missing from her home and hiding in Rahul house. Swathi brother Pradip is searching all around. The best place for her to stay at Rahul residence till complications ease out.
Now the young Rahul has to save his fiancĂ© Swathi and at the same time he has to guard his sister Sandhya. He hunts for his sister and learns the love affair of her. Rahul has the biggest task of convincing the parents of Swathi for his marriage. That is not easy for him at all. He goes to the house of aristocratic family of Swathi and is successful in convincing Swathi father.
Like a good boy Rahul brings Swathi to her house and he is in for a shock. He is beaten and sent out of the house. What plans Rahul derive later on is also interesting part.
Sumanth Shailender in his first appearance on silver screen should have given concentration to acting and body language like how he worked out for dance and action portions in the cinema. In the romantic moods he is far behind. He has to take support of the mirror a day before coming to the camera in future movies.
At some angles Vibha Nataraj is really 'Dilpasand' - her nick name in the cinema but she has strength to overcome her flaws to become 'Manpasand' in coming assignments. The close up shots of both Sumanth and Vibha deserved to be better.
Avinash, Sadhu Kokila, Achyuth Rao, Pavitra Lokesh, Padmaja Rao look fit for their roles. Pradip as brother of Vibha in the film and Krithika get more marks. Shanker of Mumbai as villain is not convincing.
Two vital contributions made from this film are cinematography and music. Three songs of Sadhu Kokila are marvelous in melody and singing. Ondhe Samane.....Idhu Lovva.....Ninnandha Heeganthe....are absorbing ones. Cameraman Raghavan has made every scene look very grand and pleasant to the eyes. The Turkey locations are first time to the eyes of the Kannada audience.
