Mahanadhi Review - Could Have Been Better

Debutant director to Kannada Krishnappa Uppur must have seen a few of director SR Puttanna Kanagal cinemas to give a good facelift to the woman character in dialogues, tapping acting and creating high velocity scenes with a terrific title 'Mahanadhi'.

Although the trials and tribulation of a coastal girl in big bad Bombay is the main focus there are many unconvincing scenes and some of them look monotonous and easily expected. The characterization of Sanjaana is given more strength when the portion moves to Bombay the film could have been a front runner. Strong and hard hitting dialogues were required for the Sanjaana character.

To her liking Meenakshi (Sanjaana) from fishermen community marries the Bombay boy Raj (Dilip Raj). She moves to Bombay (now Mumbai) but it is not a cake walk in life for Meenakshi. Janna is the main trouble shooter in the hotel where she works. When the girl children are sold to an affluent and man with nefarious activities she antagonize with Janna. The situation turns worse when Meenakshi revolt when an attempt to rape her takes places. The impact is on Raj. The money he has drawn from his office bank account is robbed. Raj also receives bullet injury on one side of his head.

Janna pretends as a good man when Raj is in hospital. His motives are different. Meenakshi decides to live in her home town with Raj. The bad luck in the life of Meenakshi follows. What is next is climax part.

Sanjaana has not adjusted in costumes and make up to suit the role. The care for expressions was also deserved to be better. Dilip Raj looks comfortable in his role. A dozen supporting artists are in good support to this film.

AM Neel gives a few lovely melodious tunes and Sundaranath Suvarana cinematography especially coastal Karnataka is bird's eye view.

Score - 5/10
