Dhuniya - Raw yet ravishing

Indiaglitz  [Tuesday, February 27, 2007]

Director Soori has shown the burning trauma of his life and what he had seen in his surroundings in 'Dhuniya'. He focuses on the loss of loyalty, truth and humanity in his 'Dhuniya' in a hard hitting style. From this film he holds a mirror to the happenings in the society. He attacks the ill happenings in the society from the visual frame work via the typical characters. Satya Hegde like his colleague Krishna in 'Mungaru Male' has given visual treat in the camera.

The protagonist Shivalingu (Vijay) is as strong as stone. He works as a rock cutter. His mother is seriously ill and he does not have just Rs.30 for treatment. He begs to save his mother but lack of treatment snatch his mother's life. Shivalingu innocence is very high. That's because he has not seen the big bad world in his life. At least after death he wants to give a nice construction for his mother's grave. For that he requires money. He is ready to do any work to earn money. He is not aware that the route he has selected is wrong. Such an innocent Shivu has another orphan Poorni in his company. They hire a dilapidated bus to live. The situation that comes in the life of Shivu is what disturbs Poorni. She decides to join a hostel for living. The rowdies in the streets further pester Shivu and his name enters in the hit list of police department. Shivu pleads his innocence. Out of fear Poorni patching up relationship with Shivu feeds the poison mixed sweets and she also eats when the police surround Shivu in a remote place. Poverty and ignorance is very sickening you feel after watching this film.

Rugged in looks and robust in personality Vijay suits very well to the role. He showed the guts and participated in dangerous action scenes without dupes. Rashmi is like a flower that is just blossoming. She reminds of top actress Prema in her looks. In the debut she has been pretty good but the height is the drawback for her. The screen stealer is Rangayana Raghu. As a postmortem employee of Victoria Hospital Rangayana Raghu drunk throughout the role is replica of so many characters in real life.

Veteran music director V.Manohar has given three lovely songs - the song Sala Madi adhru Thuppa thinnu... Kotalingave...., and Kariya I Love you are very good tunes. How come a lover says to his fiancé Thabbali Naanu Thaayiyu Neenu... (Nagendra Prasad please check - protagonist calling himself as orphan is Ok but calling the lover as mother is not heard. In the Hindu philosophy a wife attains the stage of mother to her husband at the fag end of life)

Cinematographer Satya Hegde is sure to be in the contest for best cinematography award. Showing the actual in real life on the screen on the one side and his camera angle especially the top angles are superb.

You want to see the truth happening around you, better watch this movie.
