Psycho Movie Review - Desperation of director

IndiaGlitz  [Saturday, November 01, 2008]

Do the majority of cinema goers like the incongruous and intolerable presentation on screen? Do they like rugged style and disturbing developments on screen? For both the questions 'NO' is the answer. Cinema is an entertainment media a creative field no doubt. But forcing the audience to watch the tiresome proceeding is not accepted. The making of this type of film 'Psycho' and other meaningless melodramas is keeping the family audience glue to television sets more and more.

Debutant director Devadutt who has given a built up by maintaining the secrecy of star cast till release of the film has not given a pleasant film to Kannada audience. 'Psycho' is firstly the director for his mottled thinking. To remain different in his film Devadutt appears to have done a lot of somersaults and finally landed in this subject 'Psycho' that is technically good.

Here is a psychic secluded in his dark room most of the time. Why he has become psychic the director uses the brain to explain in the later stage of the film. But before this the hunger to win the love of Pavani (Anitha) is described in many scenes by the director. Psycho collects all the left outs of Pavani and saves it in a plastic container in his room. He is so mad about Pavani. He follows her everywhere and gets all the help for her. When Psycho discharges the father of Pavani from hospital without her knowledge she is shocked. Pavani is further shocked when she deposit the hospital bill given by Psycho. It is the account number of an orphan house. At this point Pavani starts liking Psycho whom she had not seen but speaking only over telephone.

The life of Psycho is changing to a better but the shocking news Pavani gets disturbs her mind. In a fit of anger and shock Pavani yells at Psycho and he goes very miserable. For this Pavani knowing the horrible past and why her boy friend has become psycho is responsible. Realizing her flaws on the advice of a doctor she goes to the house of her fiancé but it is too late for Pavani.

Dhanush the newcomer suits the role of psycho perfectly. He has that looks, build and given an admirable performance. Anitha playing Pavani has struggled hard and she looks beautiful in a long shot. TN Srinivasamurthy (Balu) and Padmaja Rao as parents have come out very natural. RG Viajayasarathy playing a different kind of role gathers attention.

Even before the release of 'Psycho' film the songs are super hit. But some of the songs are not included in the interest of making the film just 12 reels. Sabha Kumar shows his excellence in cinematography. His aerial shots, dark spots with minute lighting have come out cleverly on screen.

'Psycho' is a technician cinema. If you are able to sustain unpleasant and fearsome developments on screen you can watch this film 'Psycho'.

Scoring 5/10
