Navashakthi Vaibhava - Good in parts
IndiaGlitz  [Saturday, February 02, 2008]

This is a film on the significance of nine goddesses popular and prayed in the god fearing houses of Karnataka. The film is good because it gives a travelogue experience. The audience would get the feel of going to those places which take a week time to visit by them. Thanks for saving time and money! You would get the darshan of nine goddesses in just Rs.50 - Kollur Mookambike, Badami Banashankeri, Mysore Chamundeswari, Belgaum Yallamma, Horanadu Annapurneshwari, Katilu Durgaparameshwari, Annamma Devi of Bangalore, Shringeri Sharadambe, Gokarna Parameshwari – are the places you would see on screen.

The couple Shruthi and Ramkumar forgets the promise they have made and their children prolific singers and dancers (Master Ramprasad and Kumari Arpitha) fall sick. The visit they make with children to nine prominent places plus the family members who are quenching to take life of children shows the power of God and devil forces. Director Saiprakash maintains the significances of the divine places on the screen and narrates with anecdotes. In the climax when the devil forces arms up with courage the eight goddesses combine in Kolluru Mookambika (played by Dr.Jayamala) and destruct the evil forces. The parents are relieved and children are freed from tormentors.

It is nice to see famous Kannada actresses in the role of Goddesses. But Anu Prabhakar, Radhika, Sudharani and Dr.Jayamala fit the roles but not the others. This is also probably because of the image they have on screen. It is usual role for Shruthi and Ramkumar. Master Ramprasad and Kumari Arpitha have done their best. The trouble shooters Lakshmi Devi, Krishna, Nagsekhar and Namitha gang is highly irritating.

Hamsalekha gives one lovely song wherein all the nine goddesses unite. The songs made on respective religious place are average. Dasari Seenu capturing the religious places is the mainstay of the film.

This is a film for devotees.

Scoring 7/10
