Mammootty, the superstar of Malayalam Cinema has completed another landmark in Malayalam film history. Now he becomes the second star after Prem Nazir to complete 300 films as the hero in Malayalam. Mammootty reached this feat as he completed his latest with Ranjith titled Kaiyoppu.
Mammootty actually appeared in the silver screen in 1971 in a single shot in the film Anubhavangal Paalichakal by K S Sethumadhavan. But this is not counted as his first film as the appearance was just limited for some seconds.
His actual opening came after 8 yeas, in the film Vilkanundu Swapnangal in 1980, even though another film titled Devalokam with M.T. is considered as his debut film which has not yet came out of the cans.
Very soon after four films he was elevated into the position of mass hero in the lead and films were made around his crowd pulling capacity in no time.
In 1983, 1984 and 1986, he appeared as the hero in 34 and 35 films respectively. And within 5 years of his stardom he presented himself in 160 films and roles of variety.
On his way through achievements, he accumulated many awards in national and international levels and was adjudged the best of the times in many time tested roles. His major attraction was how he switched to entirely different roles avoiding stereotypes in every alternate film.
Apart from this three hundred, Mammootty has acted in 12 Tamil films, 4 Hindi films and 3 Telugu films, making a fan following all around the South.
