IndiaGlitz [Friday, March 14, 2008]

After his debut venture 'Terrorist' which opened commercial markets for Indian films world wide, another Santhosh Sivan film is finding new markets all across the world.

'Before The Rains', his new cross over film shot at picturesque Munnar which was premiered at the 32nd Toronto film festival, last September, will get  theatrical releases in U S, this May. The movie will be distributed by Roadside Attractions which will release the film on May 9th in New York and Los Angels. The film will get released in another twenty cities in two weeks after the initial presentations in U S.

Produced by Adirondack Pictures, Echo Lake Entertainment and Excalibur Films and presented by Merchant Ivory Pictures.

'Before The Rains' is a love story set in the British India, when roads were being constructed through hills for spice trade. The story involves a Britisher who falls in love with an Indian house maid. This is the fifth film of Santhosh Sivan as a director, but his first American production and also his first in the English language, which also throws in plenty of visual surprises.

‘Before The Rains’ was earlier screened at the Pusan, Dubai and Palm Springs film festivals with good reviews. The film's cast includes Rahul Bose, Nandita Das, Linus Roache, Jennifer Ehle and John Standing.

Malayalam actors Thilakan, Lal and Indrajith Sukumaran are also in the cast lines of this 98-minute film, which according to the producer James Ivory is a wonderful film sure enough to rock the audiences worldwide.
