Last year, when the State Awards were announced, many cried out it as weird. But now, the jury headed by Jahnu Barua, decided to keep the entire proceedings predictable with not many surprises.
While majority of the movies that were in the competition fetched something in one section or other, the little loses were inflicted upon Adoor' s 'Naalu Pennungal' getting no distinctions in any major sections.
But the real surprise is the best film ‘Adayalangal’, directed by MG Sasi emerged as the best film. It also fetched him the best director award and the best cinematography award for M J Radhakrishnan.
The awards in the acting section, all went in the predictable lines with Mohanlal bagging the best for his performance in ‘Paradesy’, while Meera Jasmine added one more to her collections with the sensitive performance in 'Ore Kadal'. Lakshmy Gopalaswamy was names the second best actress for her performance in 'Thaniye' while veteran actor Bharath Murali was named the second best actor for ‘Pranayakalam’ and ‘Vinodhayathra’. Jagathy was one again bestowed a special award for his great presentations in ‘Arabikatha’, ‘Veeralipattu’ and ‘Paradesy’. T G Ravi was also got a special mention.

One of the surprising award decisions of the year was the best screen play award that was bestowed to Sathyan Anthikkad for his work in 'Vinodhayathra'.
All together this year's awards is sure to evoke very little questions for its integrity in decisions, as almost all named is sure to have taken strains to achieve their feats that shows itself on screen.
