‘Bilal’ a film by Sourav Saraangi was adjudged the best long documentary at the second International Documentary and Short Film Festival. The announcement was made by the state cultural minister, yesterday in the concluding function of the festival at the capital city, Thiruvananthapuram. The movie depicts the unusual story of a boy born to visually challenged parents. Hell directed by Nandalala and Stations’ by Emmanual Quindo Palo were adjudged the best films in the short-fiction category.
The award for the best short documentary was shared between Babu Kambratt for ‘Kaanam’ (Life story of a Midland Hill) and M.R. Sashidharan for ‘Ripples’. ‘Kaanam’ is a ecological documentary about the changes in a midland hill ecosystem, while Ripples portrays the life of celebrated Malayalam writer Vaikkom Mohammed Basheer through a different technique of soliloquies and third-person narrative.
The other awards given away in the function includes that for K.P. Muraleedharan (the award in the Animation category for his work titled Sacred Eggs) K P Sasi for Gaon Chhodab Nahin (for the best music video) Anirban Dutta (special mention in the long documentary section for 'In for Motion') and for Bobby John (special mention for sound recording in All the World’s a Stage).
The week long festival was attended by around thousand delegates.
