After hearing the award announcement, the award winner for best actor of the year , Prithviraj was met with a question about new generation movies. In his characteristic style Prithvi replied that he doesn't know about such a genre in Malayalam . Perhaps this may be the answer if you have asked the jury chairman, I V Sasi about the new generation movies.
Much was expected of the so called new-gen movies in this year's award ceremonies. And in private and popular gallup poll awards that are already announced, they definitely proved to be winners. But the state award jury which consisted of traditional and conventional filmmakers, new generation seemed to be a word to be kept as taboo. Except for the award for best actress for Reema kallingal for her performance in 22FK( she shared it with 'Nidhra') , none of the films or lead players that were expected to make a mark got noticed by the jury.
It was said to be an year of Fahad Fazil who has shown his mettle in more than three films including 'Annayum Rassoolum' . Described as the most natural actor after the arrival of Mohanlal into Mollywood, it is a pity that his hard work was never recognised at any point. According to the proceedings of the jury, the actor was out of the race from the round two and never did surface ever after. So are the fate of path breaking movies like 'Ee Adutha Kalathu','Ustad Hotel' Thattathin marayathu', Diamond Necklace, Spirit, Arike, 22FK, and'Trivandrum Hotel' which was lapped up by the masses for their unconventional themes and narratives, but were never considered by the jury for any of the awards.
Giving all respect to the selection f the awardees by a jury composed of esteemed members, it needs to be said that it was also a part of their job at-least by recognising some, by giving special awards, which could have boosted the climate of revival of finer films in Mollywood. Dear jury....we really expected more from you.......
