Papilio Buddha earns second at Athens

The much controversial movie from Jayan Cherian-'Papilio Buddha' has bagged the award for second best film in the recently concluded Athens International Film Festival. The movie was in competition with 250 films in various sections and it earned the reward in the feature narrative section of the famous festival.

The movie told in the backdrop of Dalit strikes for land and its oppressions, also brought to the forefront the fate of Dalit community in the underdeveloped districts of the state. The straight forward narratives of the movie has earned much applause and criticisms for its bold handling of a sensitive subject. The  movie hogged headlines as it was initially rejected from certification by the censor board.
