As Kerala cricketer Sreeshanth has hogged headlines following the match fixing charges against him, it will be interesting to go for a flashback to have a look at his first filmy assignment. Reports are that Sreeshanth was first approached to do a film by the director of new generation films , Aashiq Abu' who was then trying to debut with his Mammootty starrer "Daddy Cool'. The movie had Mammootty as a cricket fan and a character of a cricketer was written with Sreeshanth in mind. Named Sreekanth, this character was the one who fell into the trap of bookies and proved an important link into the story that narrated the love between an eight year old and his laid back father who was also a police officer.
Aashiq Abu says that it was the busy schedules of Shreeshanth that prevented him from doing the role then. But reports once circulated told about the cricketer asking for exorbitant amounts which prevented the deal. Anyhow, the role then went to young actor Govind Padmasuriya, and the movie failed to register big money at the Box Office.
Anyhow, after a few years from the film, the traits of the screen role offered to the cricketer is proving right in his real life.
