Innathe Chintha Vishayam - Raja with his usual tracks
IndiaGlitz  [Friday, April 18, 2008]

'Innathe Chintha Vishayan' is sixth film of Ilayaraja with director Sathyan Anthikkad, back to back.

In his successful 32 years in the industry, the music director has been with Sathyan from the films 'Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal' and 'Manassinakkare' to this Vishu release. 'Innathe Chintha Vishayam'.

The master musician had been instrumental in converting the most of the songs of the films for the director, into chart toppers. But that is not the case with the songs of Raja sab's latest 'Innathe Chintha Vishayam' which has a few songs which give us a feeling of 'Old wine in a new bottle'.

One always expects the superlative from Ilayaraja's repertoire and proportionate dissatisfaction sets in, when the sky-high expectations plummet. All the songs carry the characteristic Raja instrumentation and tunes. The lyrics of the songs which are also neither exceptional, are penned by Giresh Puthencherry.

1. Kastoori Pottum Singer: Vijay Yesudas

The album opens with this typical Raja song, rendered by Vijay. The singer has matured enough to sing the song in the mood that is characteristic of his father. This hackneyed song also has a tail piece sing-along 'theyyyare thayyare' cue with kids joining to complete the chorus.

2. Kando Kando Singer:  M G Sreekumar

This is the pick of the album, a song which is a mega mix of 80's. Raja's nostalgic tunes, his musical arrangements that were characteristic of his interludes, in the 90's.M G Sreekumar has rendered the song with his usual playfulness of his voice, especially while airing the typical lullaby lyrics. The very often heard catchy background rhythm is the plus as usual with every Raja songs.

3. Manasiloru  Poomala Singer: Madhu Balakrishnan, Shwetha

This one opens with some awkwardly rendered English intrusions, by Shwetha. The song, a melody oriented love duet, is vintage Ilayaraja, but just manages to become an average one with Raja Saab's regularly heard interludes. Nothing extraordinary about it, but nevertheless, it does look good on screen with fine performances from Mohanlal and Meera Jasmine.

Altogether, this is an average album with none of the songs giving that original feel- all with that ''heard -of before'' from Ilayaraja's previous efforts. The album also features the songs of 'S M S' and 'Rasathanthram', all with music by the maestro. So the album could well be a treat for those die hard fans of Raja Saab.
