IndiaGlitz  [Saturday, July 05, 2008]

‘Aayudham' is the third film from director M A Nishad, after his critically acclaimed works like 'Nagaram' and 'Pakal'. Both these films catered to niche audiences and told the border line stories about corruption, ecology and anarchism. Now with his third film ‘Aayudham', Nishad is trying a different genre, an action based political film. A politician turned filmmaker he is, everyone expects much untold political stories to be unveiled on screen, when Nishad attempts such a political movie.

The director is bringing in Suresh Gopi in the lead and utilizing his special chemistry with police uniforms to power his investigative drama. ‘Aayudham’ also have veteran Malayalam movie actor Thilakan in a vital role, after a long time. The movie will tell a plot written by the director himself, with power punch dialogues from young writer S L Puram Jayasoma.

‘Aayudham’ is a satirical enquiry based on the recent development in the state politics. The movie has Thilakan as a powerful chief minister Madhavan, a shrewd politician now in war with differing fractional groups of his own party. After the chief minister speech at Vilayam beach, which was attended by thousands, a bomb explodes taking the lives of many people .The C M who is shocked by the incident, takes personal interests in nabbing the culprits behind the incident. Not satisfied by the initial enquiries by the state police, he invites crime branch S P Rishikesh, to find clues to the incident.

Rishkesh through his careful and meticulous investigation, zeroes in on a youth named Anwar, and arrests him on charges associated with the bombings. None in the circle and his village could believe Anwar as a real culprit as he is from a known family who never associates with this kind of activities. But Rishikesh has something else in his mind. By arresting Anwar, he was aiming the big guns who were playing shadow fights, with the help of power. 'Aayudham' tells further about this suspenseful enquiry of Rishikesh and how he finally guns down the actual culprits.

After completing majority of the shoot of the movie at the capital city, parts of the movie was also shot at media city, Dubai. Bharathy who became a sensation in Tamil with the film 'Ammuvagiya Naan' forays into Mollywood playing the female lead of the movie. Also in the cast are Karthika, Madhu, Murali, Jagathy, Rajan P Dev, Bala, Aadhitya, Keerikkadan Jose, Baburaj, Sidheesh, Biju Pappan, Seema, Suvarna, Urmila Unni and Shivaji Guruvayoor.

The music section of the movie is handled by Alphonse Joseph and Biji Pal. Produced by Channel Entertainment, the movie will grace the theatres on the 15th of this month, as an Independence Day release.

The other thing of interest is that, it was during the shooting of ‘Aayudham’, Suresh Gopi came to attend a police function in the uniform. This act which made the headlines of every newspapers,   prompted an advocate to file a case against the actor in the court for ‘illegal’ use of the official police uniform. The actor then had to plead that it all happened as he got little time to change the dress. Since the function happened to be near the sets, he had to rush to the stage without thinking of any other option.. The actor was also instrumental in arguing that he meant no "insult" to  the uniform, which gave him the maximum hits .It is also a known fact that, the actor's  stubborn characters in the uniform  often introspects  every  police  men  in service  about their own behavior at critical situations.
