Breaking News Review - This breaking news is not that hot

IndiaGlitz  [Saturday, February 16, 2013]

In an age of experimental movies ruling the roost, 'Breaking news live' is another mild one to add to the list.  Coming from ad maker turned director Sudheer Ambalapad, this movie is a take on the infamous rape and murder that hogged the headlines, a year ago.
The movie has Kavya Madhavan as Nayana, a graduate in catering technology.  Keen to marry her co-worker (Played by Vineeth)at the college soon, Nayana happens to gain acquaintance with Swapna(Mydhili) working with ITL , a tour company. Swapna is the sole caretaker of her aged grandmother (Sukumari) and a mentally retarded brother and is all set to marry soon. And when Nayana is back from a college tour, she alights on a compartment of train which has Swapna, and a host of travellers including a women hockey team on it. But amidst the journey, she finds a six feet high Tamilian trying to take hold of Swapna and in her efforts to get rid of him, she asks for help. Nayana is dumbstruck to see this but couldn't act on time and both of them falls off the train.
Nayana keeps this entire episode a secret but is shocked to find the news about the  girl who is admitted in a coma stage  for days. And when she finally succumbs to the inevitable end, Nayana develops a sort of regret and remorse that affects her life in proportions that she never had thought before.
The movie holds a very elegant message which is its best highlight. This noble intention which calls upon the citizenry to awake and act at the most needed time, is well translated into the narratives. But the biggest drawback seems to be its poorly made former half. With hand held cameras and over lit shots, this half hardly impress in any of its sequences, The songs by Mohan Sithara, that  springs up in intervals are poorly choreographed and are unwarranted. So is the other technical sides .But the last forty minutes is sharp to the point, with well made sequences that deliver the needed with desired effect.
The direction by debutante Sudheer Ambalappatt is average at best, while the scripts by G Kishore and the director wanders mostly in the former half and is often confusing. Kavya is apt in her role, while all in the rest of the casts play to their roles. Attempts to create comedies with the characters of Anoop Chandran and Mamukoya fails to click.
The movie is prescribed for an one time watch, considering is noble intentions and social commitment.
