Oru Black And White Kudumbam - This family is just OK
IndiaGlitz  [Thursday, September 10, 2009]

Mistaken identities, confusion dramas and related comedy of errors -This has been the trap Mollywood has been in for quite some time, whenever they eye for a hilarious entertainer. This new movie ‘Oru Black And White Kudumbam’ is another one in the same mould, but one that marginally escapes from its big pitfalls of the genre and ends up as a reasonably fairer entertainer. If you don't ponder for bigger logics, this is bound to entertain you, at least for a few minutes.

The movie features Kalabahavan Mani as a darker ‘Antony’ a Lorry driver who has much complex about his colour whenever he is with Lakshmi Thampuratti, with whom he has entered a controversial marriage. They with their only son, Antony Aditya Varma or Aadi (Jayasuriya) has been going though a better life till Aadi gets caught in a Visa scandal. He and his friends were trying to migrate to Australia, but the middleman played fowl and Antony and his son now, ends up in bankruptcy.

Antony now takes the job of Driver in Minnu's group of companies. To get back their lost fortunes, he also brings in Aadi as the manager of the firm. Amidst these, Lakshmi also comes in search of Aadi, is forced to join the household as one of the maids. Young Minnu (Bhama), the scion of the business group, and the boss of her household now falls for Aadithya. As no one in the household know that Antony and Lakshmi as Aadi's parents, they are forced to continue with this crisis of their changed roles, till they are caught red handed.

Popular theatre script writer Pradeep Kumar Kavumthara, who switches on to movies with this endeavor has managed to hold the complicated tale together. But apart from repeating the heard and seen plot twists, he is not able to induce his wisdom to the proceedings. Moreover, it is of little logic on how all the three manages to find the same place for their jobs, or is that that Minnu's group is one established to give jobs to every passerby who are in distress?

Kalabhavan Mani, after a long time excels in a meaty role tailor made for him, with an array of emotions to decipher. Jayasuriya is in his usual self, while Bhama has managed to keep her role lively and active. Vinayaprasad and Lalu Alex are also apt in their roles. Suraj Venjaramoodu and Anoop Chandran has managed to create some genuinely hilarious moments though with a celebration of double entendres. The technical side of the movie is also average. Jibu Jacob's camera and Alex Paul's music are in sync with the mood of the movie.

Oru Black & White Kudumbam works mainly because the movie never gives an air of that serious storytelling and never ever demands that you do so either. So if you are in a mood for no great insights or realistic life sketches, than a few irreverent blasts, then this is the movie. Go with little expectations and have a few giggles.
