Cowboy Movie Review - 'Cowboy' to gallop out soon

IndiaGlitz  [Tuesday, February 19, 2013]

We don't see much of the cowboys in India. Even if we see some, we are not interested in befriending them due to their differences in taste. And so is this 'Cowboy' coming from the young star Asif Ali and debutante director Bala chandrakumar. An aspiring thriller which is seriously impaired by a sickening screenplay and outdated direction, this movie is sure to gallop out of the theatres in a couple of week's time. We rightly sensed this earlier after feeling its teasers, though...

In another poor selection of a movie and a character after his last in 'Asuravithu', Asif ali comes up as Vinay in 'Cowboy' , an young man who is widely criticized for his irresponsible nature. Running a pub at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, he takes life so easily that people around him like his father (Kalashala Babu) , sister and brother in law(Irshad)  cannot decipher any sort of determination in the guy. In an eventful day Vinay is entrusted to take his small nephew who dotes on his uncle, to the airport to fetch his parents. But as the flight got delayed, they go for a city tour at the end of which the child is held hostage by Xavier(Bala) and Laila(Archana). Xavier wants Vinay get one person killed in exchange of the child. And when the men at the gun point is the Indian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Revathy Menon) (Khushboo) , things are got to be serious. Vinay starts playing another dreaded game with  loaded guns for the first time. How  he manages to get back his nephew forms the rest of the plot which is visibly inspired from Hollywood films like 'Nick of Time ' to 'True lies'.

The movie remains faithful to the original Hollywood thriller, but lacks the extra effort form each in the cast and crew to make it an engaging watch. In another attempt on an action flick , Asif Ali appears confident in the initial reels but loose steam in the later half and in action scenes. Bala gives that harsher looks but is not that menacing.  Khusboo is fine with her looks and attires while Mydhili is wasted in another minuscule role with nothing much to do. The much flawed movie extensively shot at Malaysia, can be watched  as a travelogue for some minutes . But the debutante director needs much more precision in handling things before attempting a thriller of this scale. His attempts are spoiled by a very average screenplay and irritable  dialogues, which also have plenty of loopholes.

The very average songs and B G scores add to the pain of the director, effectively reducing the quality of sequences. Also is the poor real time pacing of the thriller, which makes you bored through out.

All in all , this  'Cowboy' may not be your love boy on theatres. Watch this, if you don't have anything serious to do............Or else hire a DVD of its originals and get thrilled......
