Issac Newton Son Of Philipose Movie Review - falls for predictability

IndiaGlitz  [Tuesday, January 15, 2013]

An over grown hero, who is trying ways to somehow pass the tenth standard  to acquire permission from his father to get married. This seems to be the one line of the new movie 'Issac newton, son of Philippose. This story could have worked well a few years back, if it was packed all through with wits that worked big time. But this V Boss movie tries to make forced attempts on comedy, on which a half hardly works. And with Lal painfully trying ways to look younger and righter for the title role, this movie ends up as another routine fare that we are regular viewers too.
Lal is curiously titled as  Issac Newton in the movie who is the only son of Philippose, the owner of Maalakha sound of Koottur. A single parent who has already agreed to his deceased wife that Issac will be provided with the best of the education, Philippose dreams of making his son an engineer. But even without having the finesse to pass a tenth exam the dream of Philippose stands void.
Issac is having a lady love in Annie, a teacher who is waiting for him. But philippose will only agree for the marriage if Issac Newton pass over the tenth standard hurdle. Together with the help of his close cronies  Josutten and Jomon (Tini Tom and Dharamajan) who take close guard of the invigilators of the exams, Issac Newton claded with paper scraps hidden all over the body tries for an 18th time  to pass the exam. But once again Issac fails in the exam and shortly afterwards gets embroiled in a murder case. With that mandatory villains, church festivals, drama  and confusions, the movie moves on to its very predictable finale.
The makers doesn't seems to have any serious intentions other than to make a fun movie and to grab the satellite rights. And they may have succeeded in both though the intended fun will not make everyone happy. The first half an hour is really pacy and interesting. The scripts by Harish Unni has some promise in the initial reels but towards the later half, the movie fails to entertain with its predictability and clichéd nature.
Lal and Nedumudi Venu repeat their usual antics and manage to play to their roles. The rest of the cast are effective in their smaller roles. But an talented actress like Abhinaya is wasted in another regular, mediocre role.
In the technical sides Abushah makes a promising debut in cinematography, while Bijipal's songs like 'Peeli Aashane' add to the festive mood of the movie.
All in all, this 'Issac Newton' is a customary, routine Mollywood film with little freshness. The movie may not be your cup of tea if you are looking for all round novelty. But for those who like to savour that regular formulaic stuff, some parts of this flick may not be too frustrating.
Rating -5.5/10
