Thattathin Marayathu Movie Review - Will satisfy its target audience

After Fazil's Aniyathipravu, we haven't really had a college love story. Of course, we have come across many love stories, but not the romance of youngsters. Thattathin Marayathu is a true college love story.

"It is a simple, romantic story and we sincerely hope that this romantic story is going to attract all. It is based in Thalassery where I originally come from and I am more comfortable when the stories are set there"

A romantic flick is what my generation would love to watch over and over........These are some of the observations that Vineeth Sreenivasan made before presenting his new movie 'Thattathin Marayathu' to theatres...Yes, definitely a case of clearly marking the potential target audience before the project, the movie which is an innocent musical love story, works good specially for its targeted viewers. Though it lacks depth, its stylish narration and fine performances are something that goes in its favour.

Set in a small town in Thalassery with all that true accents and local specialities, the movie has Nivin poly as  Vinod Nair , an average student from a middle class Hindu family who falls head over heels in love with a beautiful girl named Aisha (Isha Talwar). Hailing from a wealthy and influential Muslim family, Aisha is in effect at the other end of the lifestyles that Vinod owns, who with his poor family, and leftist ideals are at impossible odds for a love and happy life with Aisha. But the surprise comes in the form of no big conflicts, as all of a sudden we realize that Aisha, with a modern outlook living in an orthodox household is also smitten by love for Vinod for no particular reasons. The movie loses its intensity as it progresses and ends up as a typical teenage love story.

The male centric plot movie is told from the viewpoint of Vinod, making a confessional account to Premkumar (Manoj K Jayan) the inspector of the local Janamaithry Police station, who is all set to bring together all loving hearts in his vicinity. The initial back and forth flash cuts in the first half are pretty interesting, but the later half play spoilsport turning predictable, cliched and uneventful.

Two actors from the 'Malarvadi Gang'- Aju Varghese as a friend of Vinod and Bhagath Manuel who act as a courier of love letters between the loving hearts have some pretty good roles and so is Sunny Wayne's cameo.

The highlights of 'Thattathin Marayathu' are the performances by the lead and outstanding visual support by Jomon T John. Nivin Poly graduates into the big league with the role of Vinod which he handles with surprising ease. He is sure to find more fine projects and producers in the near future. Isha Talwar looks great but has very few dialogues and appears mute in much of the sequences. Excellent BG scores and songs by Shaan Rahman add to the Vineeth Sreenivasan's attempts to place viewers on a romantic trail.

As we discussed earlier, the teenage love story targeted to appeal to the 15-22 aged youngsters who really hadn't watched any good ones in the recent years, the Thalassery slang and sincerity of placements and original locales, and of course the fine dialogues are the things that will make this movie a repeatedly watchable one for the youngsters. Advised for all who enjoyed reading Mills and Boons kind of romantic love stories, at some point of your adolescence.
