Gods Own Country Movie Review - 'God's Own Country' is a Fine Film

IndiaGlitz  [Saturday, May 10, 2014]

After some movies that didn't work exactly for its director Vasudev Sanal, is the new flick 'God's own country'. Featuring Fahad Fazil, Sreenivasan, and Lal in the lead roles, the movie earlier titled 'RED'-A rare emotional day'  is a multi-narrative  very similar to 'Traffic' with all happenings on a single day. But the débutante scriptwriters Arun Gopinath, Anish Francis and Praveen manages to  make the movie a workable, edge of the seat thriller with needed emotions, but without any frills..

The movies tells three dissimilar stories that crossroads at very few points. Fahad Fazil is Manu, an NRI . Settled in Dubai, he is currently in Kochy with his little daughter  to settle some problems that happened in the hands of his wife Asha (Isha Talwar), that can costs her life. Manu is supported by his friend Abhirami(Mythili) a novel writer to fetch some big amount, but when the raised hefty money goes missing , Manu is on the run.

Sreenivasan is Mathew Tharakan(Lawyer), an advocate with social commitment  who needs to present with a crucial witness in a rape case in that very eventful day is opposed by the opposition team who is hell bent to avoid the advocate appearing for the case. Lal appears as a taxi driver Muhammed who is desperately trying to make six lakhs for the operation of his child.

Revolving around the problems faced by a hapless father, a troubled husband and a sensitive advocate to seek justice, the movie has a well packed former half, that is racy to the core. The well structured non -linear scripts doesn't turn predictable at any points as it carefully avoids the 'cliche tag' in much of the sequences. With exciting performances from all in the lead, -Fahad, Sreenivasan and Lal , the movie is sure to end up as a gratifying experiences for all, who are in the lookout for quality cinema. The rest of the cast in the smaller roles including Nandhu, Lena, Isha Talwar, Mythili, Jafer Idukki, Sudheer Karamana, Lakshmi Priya, and Manikuttan play perfect foil to the demand of their roles.

The Bg scores and the songs by Gopi Sundar are fine and adds to the mood of the flick. As the three songs are all  superb situational songs, it doesn't affect the pace or mood of the film. The cinematography was done with needed effects  by Aravind Krishna-Arun James, though the work is not exceptional. The few  action sequences are also good, while rest of the technical sides are flawless.

Overall, 'God's Own Country' is a deftly made movie, that may not be in the league of sheer brilliant flicks. But definitely an edge of the seat thriller with its share of fine emotional moments and an intelligent climax , 'this 'God's Own Country' is recommended for demanding viewers, who has been bombarded with the many hyped, but extremely poor stuffs of recent times.
