With every tick forward, we are gearing up for the big bash on the NYE. And as we turn back, there are a lot of moments we wished to relive once more, and here are the ones that brought us sudden delights and goosebumps when we chose to sit back and enjoy the entertainment. The year that's fading away is one healthy lot of twelve months that has appreciated creativity and provided the stage for it among audience with openness to variety. And so, stepping aside from stereotypes, 2013 presented to the world audience, a collection of offbeat stories in gripping screenplay, that made this list make it's way on top as the hits of this year.

People said it was a revisit of Bhagyaraj's comedy riot 'Indru Poi Naalai Vaa', but nothing was to stop director Manikandan from claiming the choice position right on top. 'Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiyaa' not only launched Santhanam as a producer, but also introduced Powerstar to broader section of audience on a pepped up screen play of a funny love story. Widely received as a super hit film on the lines of funny entertainment, this Pongal 2013 treat marked the first hit of the year that just went by.

Next came the summer entertainer, kicking off the season, with Pandiraj's fourth in the tinsel town. Having made his mark with trendsetters like 'Pasanga' and 'Marina', 'Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga' starring Siva Karthikeyan and Vimal was not quite a content-rich movie, but was an entertainer nonetheless. Involving politics, love and family emotions, KBKR was a good two hours of emotional roller coaster, which opened to optimistic reviews and quite sustained its stature on stilts. Fetching pretty good returns and recognition, 'Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga' is yet another comic entertainer that Kollywood is proud to have cradled in 2013. Audience have been pretty much open to the idea of comedy all of last year, with quite many releasing in similar genre. The second success for Vimal happened later in the year with 'Desingu Raja' topping the trends, as yet another comedy flick. Yet again Bindhu Madhavi was paired up with Vimal in quick succession to their previous success KBKR, and although there was not much to write home about the script or story line, 'Desingu Raja' did make heads turn with the collection it made, fetching it the distinction of belonging to the list of successes.

Sentiments, comedy and mass elements of 'Kutti Puli' did not kick off well with the audience, but it made a whopping turnover of nearly thrice as much as its budget, nonetheless. After marking himself a strong place in Kollywood with 'Sundarapandian' in 2012, which brought in the Kerala girl Lakshmi Menon as debutante, his next as an actor, with the same heroine was not widely received as a tailored entertainer. Since release in end summer, the film has however seen consistent collections, summing up to 22 crore rupees, ticking off 'Kutti Puli' as one of the hits of the year that just went by.

Summer this year was a season to cherish in multiple ways, and one of them was to hangout on 'Ethir Neechal'. With a strong career as an assistant to director Vetrimaran, debutante Durai Senthilkumar had us enthralled, entertained and return home with goosebumps, with the holiday release, 'Ethir Neechal'. Running successfully for weeks, carrying Siva Karthikeyan's distinction many notches up and Anirudh's prowess even farther, Wunderbar Films' second venture 'Ethir Neechal' continues to be one thorough entertainer that people still look forward to watch twice, thrice or even four-times over, given the bout of laughter and lighthearted comedy it delivers, and the strong story that gets you thinking in many different angles.

After more than a year, 'Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru' was a well-comeback for director Sundar C's unparalleled comedy. it is noteworthy that it was TVSK that took Kolly to travel the archipelago and shoot in the as-yet-not-much-explored Japan, and deliver it convincingly to Tamil audience. It was not quite a watch to see a run-down version of Siddharth in puny looks, but nothing else could have probably justified his IT-guy-behind-geeky-glasses look, as this appealed. Behind the screenplay was also Nalan Kumarasamy, who has a world-famous hit to himself, this year. And notably, it was TVSK that fetched Hansika the fame of being drawn a comparison with Kushboo, given her charm and looks. Though not entirely a consistent story, TVSK was a funny entertainer that drew people to the big screens.

Pick and choose anyone at random to spell out their favourite movie this year, and any Kolly bee would say 'Raja Rani'. There were suspicions whether Atlee was really a debutante, given his esteem as a fine director. 'Raja Rani' was a rom-com and an all-smiles movie - quite literally. The songs are chart busters, the movie in itself is a block buster and the whole team is overjoyed with the tremendous response it has received. There may be a few who still stick to their drawing parallels with 'Mouna Raagam' to 'Raja Rani', but Fox Star Studios has their say and their way this year - be it melting love or kicking comedy, 'Raja Rani' it is.

Later this year saw the growing trend of Madurai-based action thrillers. Among the concurrent ones with an upbeat and out-of-the-box story is 'Thagararu'. Across all the years that's made success stories, one formula that appeases all is friendship. Set on these grounds on a racy screenplay with a completely stunning twist, one of the most recent successes of the year was Ganesh Vinayak's 'Thagararu'. Trust Arulnithi to stick to scripts that carry an unmatched essence, the actor fresh from his success in 'Mouna Guru', has lived up to the stature he has elevated himself to, with this appealing entertainer, which has pleased the majority in the state.

Success is perspective, and the ones that choose the right side are noted on the long run. At the end of an arduous year, the aforementioned list is what we found to have more than matched audience's expectation, in rendering them the privilege of hits of 2013. With just a few more hours left for the grand wrap up, we look forward to much more in this list, come next new year's eve.
