Tamilnadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha introduced the Amma Unavagam scheme and more hundreds of Government run food stalls were opened last year all over the state. Quality food items are being provided in these food stalls at very economical rate. The scheme is an instant success and seen as one of the best schemes ever introduced by the Jayalalitha, who is currently running her third tenure as the chief minister.

Likewise, the current government has also introduced Amma Kudineer which is the scheme to provide a liter of purified water for Rs.10/- and this is equally successful. Now the TN Government is planning for a similar step towards making Tamil films affordable to low income groups. As per reliable sources the Tamilnadu Government is contemplating to start 'Amma Theatres' where people can watch movies at a nominal cost. It is also said that the Amma Theatres will screen more number of small budget films.

If this idea pans out, it will be seen as one major step taken by the Government headed by Jayalalitha, towards the welfare of Tamil Cinema and his stakeholders as well as the audience
