As we celebrate Rama Nvami today, the spirits in the country is as high as the sky, if one were to make a comparison. This day signifies the birthday of his Highness to King Dasaratha. The way it is celebrated differs across region to region. In some places, the devotees fast or restrict themselves to a specific diet in accordance to the VedaDharma. It is considered holy to read the Ramayana today. Some even chant the Hanuman Chalisa over and over again. In many places, there is also a special Rath yathra drawn, where the people drawing the chariot are also dressed up as the characters appearing the epic.

Not many are aware of our scripture that emphasizes a lot of the Rama Rajya - a rare period of peace bestowed on the King. This festival is also celebrated to commemorate the birth of Sri Rama who is remembered for his flourishing and virtuous supremacy.

Talking about Rama, one composer who comes to our mind is ofcourse Thyagaraja. He has written countless compositions in varius ragams praising the Lord.  'Marukelara O' Raghava' in the ragam Jayantashree is ofcourse one of the most wonderful compostioins. 'Seethamma Maayamma' is yet again a brilliant one in the ragam Vasanta describes and brings to light the various life aspects of the Lord.

Rama bhajans sung during this time is also considered as the best offering or rather prayer to the God. One popular bhajan ofcourse could be 'Shri Raamachandra kripalo bhajamana' which is very famous through out India. Jagjit Singh contributed his share by making 'Hey Ram Hey Ram' a very popular one, which has wonderful lyrics, where every devotee is pictured to be surrendering himself in full to the Almighty. It is believed to give all the devotees peace while chanting the 'Ram Nam'.
