Popular Actor-director Rajkiran is being credited for introducing  Vadivelu as a sidekick comedian in 'EN Rasavin Manasile' that released in 1991. However little was known about the ace comedian's real on screen debut unless he revealed it in a recent interview. Nevertheless Rajkiran deserves credit indeed for introducing Vadivelu in a noticeable role that has helped him reach the position he is in today.

T.Rajendhar's role in Vadivelu's debut

Vadivelu said that when he visited Chennai for the first time he was not having any intention to enter cine field and he just went to the AVM studios for passing free time. The shooting of T.Rajendhar's super hit 'En Thangai Kalyani' was going on at that time. An unknown face was required for a cycle driving scene in the film and T.Rajendhar selected Vadivelu who was one of the onlookers, as the suitable person to enact the scene. This is how Vadivelu made his on screen debut. Vadivelu added that after seeing the film many of his friends and well-wishers in his hometown near Madurai wanted him to try his luck in films since they had identified his acting potential in the number of dramas he had acted.

This encouragement had lead Vadivelu to makeup his mind to act in films and he came to Chennai to search chances. Rajkiran was kind enough to offer him a role and what followed next is history.

Till this day, Vadivelu remains one of the most successful comedy icons of Tamil cinema and he has carved a niche for himself with his unique comedy style.
