Since the veteran had passed away when the award was announced for Ram's film, Ram has said that he feels the award should have come to him a little earlier and Balumahendra should have lived on this earth for five more years.

Ram has also mentioned that he is however happy to receive the National award along with the National award for his mentor's film 'Thalaimuraigal'. He has also dedicate the three awards won by 'Thangameengal' to the veteran craftsman.
