Director Ram's ambitious project 'Thanga Meenkal' won three awards. The film that revolved around affectionate father and daughter, received the award for The Best Regional Film in Tamil. The film was taken over and released by J.Satheesh Kumar of JSK Film Corporation who received the award from the hands of The President of India.,Baby Sadhana who acted as the Ram's daughter in the film received the Best Child Artiste award for her performance in her debut film. Lyricist Na.Muthukumar received his first National award for his penning the famous 'Ananda Yazhai Meettugirai' number in the film.

Veteran Filmmaker Balu Mahendra's last film Thalaimuraigal produced by Sasikumar under his Company Productions banner on the award for Best film for stressing the importance of National integration. Sasikumar dedicated the award to the director who also made his acting debut with the film.

Editor Sabu won the National Award for Best Editing for his work in the sports thriller 'Vallinam' directed by Arivazhagan.

Another Tamilian has received his maiden National award this year but not for a Tamil film. Re-recordist D.Yuvaraj has won his maiden National award for the Best Re-recordist of the final mix track for the Malayalam film 'Swapanam'.
