'Mondram Pirai' was remade in Hindi as 'Sadma' which eventually marked the debut of Ilayaraja. While composing the songs for the remake, Ilayaraja had to leave 'Poongatru Puthidanadhu' because the lyricist from Bollywood found it quite tough to pen down lyrics for that innovative melody back then. They even went on to enquire about who penned the original lyrics for the tune in Tamil.

It was Gulzar who took over the writing duties for 'Sadma' thoroughly impressed by Maestro's work and asked him to compose a different tune for the situation. Ilayaraja did present one of his majestic number 'Va va pakkam vaa' from 'Thanga Magan' which was once again a fabulous tune composed in single note couldn't find its place in 'Sadma'.

Then the team settled with 'Aye Zindagi' a brand new tune for the same situation composed and marked the arrival of Maestro in a bigger picture. Well, this shows the glory of Tamil language and the talents available in our part of the world.
