As Poet Maruthakasi pointed out way back in 1967, What not available in our country, why should we look up to foreign countries? A group of promising techies from Coimbatore has become an internet sensation with their amateur 3 minute 52 second long 3D animation video which acts as a tribute to Rajinikanths' 'Kochadaiyaan'. These guys have proven that anything can be achieved with the local talents and with the resource we have.
Sivaprasad Velayudhan, director of operations, Realworks Studios, heads a team of twenty animation professionals spent close to 10 weeks of project time and and 22500 minutes of rendering 4500 image frames to create the video clip. What's more interesting is, they have not made use of any foreign talent, no powerful workstations, no motion capture, and ZERO cost related to software. Because they have made use of the open source materials which is available from Ubuntu.
Sivaprasad stressed that we aren't trying to prove anything to the makers of 'Kochadaiyaan'. We just wanted to create something on the lines which is easily accessible for the masses to connect with. He also went to add that his company has been receiving calls from the industry to know more about their achievement. Well, the internet and open sources have certainly bridged the gap between talent and opportunity.
