Maestro Ilayaraja rarely appreciates others works and even if he does so, it would be the works of M. S. Viswanathan and other music directors who have worked prior to him in the industry. Ilayaraja has expected his elder son, Karthik Raja to carry his legacy forward, since Karthik Raja graduated from Trinity School of Music, but much to his surprise, it is his younger son, Yuvan Shankar Raja emerged as the clear winner and going strong even after 100+ movies.
In a recent press meet, Yuvan mentioned, though I have composed for 100+ movies and many of the songs are hot favorite among music buffs, my dad rarely appreciates my work. Long ago, he was impressed with 'Idhu kaadhala' song in 'Thulluvadho Ilamai' and said it is good. That's the only appreciation I have got from him so far.
Ilayaraja has often crooned for Yuvan, and the duo has dished out a dance number last week, Move your body in 'Vai Raja Vai'.
