Pentamedia's foray in Tamil movies has been a mixed one. Though their films have been highly acclaimed (Pammal K Sambandam, pandavar Bhoomi, Whistle, Little John), financially they did little business.
But the animation series from the production house has had better luck. Not only they have been popular with the public, they are also getting major honors. The Legend of Buddha, the recently launched 2D film by Pentamedia Graphics Ltd, has qualified for contention at Oscar Awards 2005 in the Best Animation Film category.
Only 11 animated films from across the world, including The Legend of Buddha from Pentamedia Graphics Ltd, India, have qualified for this year's award. Others include three films from Walt Disney, US (includes one of Pixar's Production), three from DreamWorks, US, two from Warner Bros, US, one from Paramount Pictures, US, and one from Maxmedia, South Korea.
The Legend of Buddha is a 2D animated film on the life of Prince Siddhartha produced at Pentamedia's Studios in India, Singapore and Philippines. The unique feature of the film is the 2D animated characters brought to life by over 200,000 drawings supported by rich 3D animated backgrounds giving great depth onscreen.
Pentamedia has already done work for the Warner Bros film King and I. It has also produced the 3D animated films 'Sinbad - Beyond the Veil of Mist', 'Pandavas - The Five Warriors, Alibaba and Son of Alladdin. The 3D animated film from the studio, Alibaba, had qualified for contention at the Oscar Awards in 2002.
Hopefully, this time around the film will actually win an award at the annual show.
