With several young talents emerging every day, it was an eventful year in Kollywood as far as the music is concerned. The likes of Yuvan Shankar, Srikanth Deva and D Imman composed music for many films, while the veterans A R Rehman and Harris Jeyaraj came up with just a couple of films this 2006.

A look back at the year would throw to light many surprises. From nowhere emerged Gana Ulaganathan. His Valameenukum Vilangumeenukum in Chithiram Pesuthadi became an instant hit and was repeatedly played everywhere. Also the year saw Kamal Haasan's Dasaavatharam going to floors with music by Bollywood's Himesh Reshamiyya. Also the year saw a craze among the music composers to go for remix songs.

Imman tops scoring music for over half-a-dozen movies. He is followed closely by Srikanth Deva. Among the lyricists, the year undoubtedly belongs to Na Muthukumar. He not only received an honorary doctorate this year but also penned the lyrics for maximum. Also Veyyil brought to light a young music composer G V Prakash. Nephew of AR Rehman, his work in Veyyil promises a prosperous   future for the young lad.
