It is not uncommon to see heirs of yesteryear heroes, heroines and other industry persons making a foray into the film industry. And its completely natural for someone to follow their father’s or mother's footsteps.
Well, this trend is common and holds good for any person or profession and is especially true as far as films are concerned.
Be it Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan’s son Prabhu or Muthuraman’s son Karthik, many heroes have entered the film industry with guidance and inspiration from their respective fathers and have succeeded largely with their uniqueness. They were able to carve a niche for themselves and many are still maintaining their good run.
The trend still continues. Actor Sivakumar’s sons Suriya and Karthi, Vijaya T Rajendhar’s son Simbu, Editor Mohan’s son Jayam Ravi, producer GK Reddy’s son Vishal, producer RB Chowdhary’s sons Jeeva and Jithan Ramesh, have all entered the film industry and have been quite successful in their career so far.
Though the entry was easy to each one of the aforesaid, sustaining the successful run in the industry can be purely attributed to their own inherent and individual talents. Each one of them has had formal training in various aspects that are associated with acting including dance, stunts and so on.
Yesteryear actor Sumithra’s daughter Uma has also been largely successful and she has proved her acting mettle in roles that call for performance and poignant portrayals. In fact, the list of successful successors is quite long!
Now, we have more star heirs ready to take a plunge into the dream factory. Ace director P Vasu’s son Sakthi is all set to make his debut in a film titled Thottal Poo Malarum and the film is expected to release soon. His father is himself introducing Sakthi. Besides, Suchindra Bali, son of the yesteryear heroine who was known for performance as well as graceful dancing, Vyjayanthimala Bali, is making a foray into the silver screens with Ninaithalae. This film is directed and produced by Viswas Sundar.
Saranya, daughter of actor-director Bhagyaraj and actor Poornima Bhagyaraj had a good debut in Parijatham directed by her father who is known for his brilliant screenplays. Now, his son Shanthanu is making a debut with the Kala Prabhu directed Sakkarakatti. Kala Prabhu is, incidentally, the son of veteran producer Kalaipuli Thanu.
Actor-politician S Ve Shekhar’s son Krishna is all set to test the waters too. His maiden venture as hero will start soon. Producer Khaja Mohideen is also keen to introduce his son as a hero in his forthcoming film.
Films today are not what it used to be decades back. With the advent of technology and media boom, many talented and creative youngsters are entering the celluloid world with dreams and sky-high aspirations. This has made films a highly competitive industry and the bottom-line is that one can succeed only if he has the talent, fire, spark, passion and hard-work to go along with them all. There have been individuals who made similar forays into silver screens owing to their backgrounds but sadly, few of them sank without a trace. This only goes on to prove that a good entry need not necessarily guarantee victory at every step of the way.
Youngsters these days know a thing or two about what it takes to reach the top but what is more important is not just reaching the top, but sustaining it and staying there. At this juncture, we wish all the best to the youngsters who are making their entry into Kollywood and we are sure that they will prove worthy of their lineage.
