Novel and meaningful effort
IndiaGlitz [Friday, December 28, 2007]

The obstacle for those who want to make quality products in Tamil cinema is the economics of such efforts. Quality products with less commercial ingredients are not encouraged by many. Newcomers find it difficult to get the chance to prove their worth, as the most of the producers don’t want to take risk.

It is in this context production companies like Duet Movies, S Pictures, Moser Bear, and Pyramid Saimira Theatre Group deserve appreciation, as they encourage new talents and novel efforts.

Pyramid Saimira and Jnanabhanu have silently launched a new movement to promote good cinema and to encourage new talents. It has started “One Reel Movement”, which would produce 10 minute-long films and screen them for free of cost in more than 100 theatres that come under the network of Saimira.

The movement was launched on a cool and breezy Friday morning on December 28, in Woodlands theatre in Chennai. It was launched in all the districts on the same day. It was the day when Lumière brothers screened the first ever cinema in Paris in 1895. The one reel film titled ‘Thirumathi James Ippodhu Enna Seyyaq Vendum?’ was screened after the brief introduction of the effort by the director Gnani, founder of Jnanabhanu.

The film is based on the story written by Dilip Kumar, a distinctive Tamil writer. Newcomer Neilson and Veteran Rohini have acted in the film. The film is all about a wife who is getting ready to part with her husband and the efforts of the husband to stop her.

While Neilson, as James, keeps on talking throughout the film, Rohini, as Mrs James, doesn’t utter a single word. Her facial expressions, particularly her expressive eyes, and body language speak volumes. Neilson has left a memorable mark in his maiden venture.

The camera work by P.S. Dharan, editing by I.P. Sivamani, and music by Anil N.C. are quite competent.

Eminent Tamil writer and Sahithya Academy winner Asokamithran launched the movement. The septuagenarian recalled his association with Gnani.

Sathyaraj, Ameer, Vasanthabalan, and Radha Mohan spoke in the occasion, praising the effort.

Pyramid Natarajan explained the idea behind the movement and heaped laurels on the film directed by Gnani.

The 75 per cent of the crew of the film are newcomers and the same principle will be followed in the subsequent products, informed Gnani.

Kudos to Gnani and Pyramid Saimira for such a novel and meaningful effort.
