Like most of the young generation actors today, he is also the industry’s child. He is the son of veteran producer GK Reddy and younger brother of Vikram Krishna who tried to be a hero and ended up as a producer. His passion for cinema got him an apprenticeship with actor-director Arjun, after completing Visual communication at Loyola College. His status as assistant to Arjun for the films ‘Vedham’ and ‘Ezhumalai’ exposed him not only to direction but also in acting.
And then he got his first break as a hero in the film ‘Chellame’. Yes! We are talking about the tall darkish guy who made waves with his first film. He is Vishal and today is his birthday!
When Vishal got the chance in ‘Chellame’ he took gradual steps, taking up theater training from Koothupatrai troupe for three months. He then went on to have three back-to-back hits with ‘Chellame’, ‘Sandakozhi’ and ‘Thimiru’ which were all dubbed in Telugu. His ‘Thamirabarani’ with director Hari achieved enough box-office success, was also dubbed in Telugu as ‘Barani’. His next film ‘Malaikottai’ also did a good business. Next did a bilingual, titled 'Sathyam' in Tamil and 'Salute' in Telugu.
Vishal’s role as a police officer and his Six-packs made ‘Sathyam’ a hard-sell project. Vishal’s latest release ‘Thoranai’ was made simultaneously in Telugu as ‘Pista’. He has zoomed past more established names and is today considered not only a ‘saleable star’ but a ‘safe bet’ by the distributors.
Shortly he will be back with ‘Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai’ for his home production. The actor is co-producing the movie along with his brother Vikram while Thiru the one time associate of ‘Sathyam’ fame director A.Rajasekhar will be directing it. So, Vishal’s tough-boy look will rest for a while for this romantic-comedy. Let him entertainment us more and more in the future too…
