J K Ritheesh gets bail

IndiaGlitz [Thursday, March 31, 2011]

Actor and DMK Ramanathapuram MP J K Ritheesh, who was arrested for allegedly assaulting a section of villagers at Kalavankudi near Sholandur, was granted conditional bail on Wednesday.

District Sessions Judge V Balasundarakumar, while granting conditional bail to Ritheesh, who was arrested along with seven others under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, said that he must stay in Madurai and sign at Tallakulam police station every day at 10 am till further orders.

Lawyers A Ravichandra Ramavanni and M Somasundaram moved the bail petition for the actor-politician. Opposing the bail petition, an intervening petition was filed by the AIADMK and the DMDK stating that if released Ritheesh will intimidate witnesses.

Ten persons were injured in the clash that broke out when panchayat officials were making arrangements to lay a road at Kavalankudi which was opposed by the villagers, who said the work had been taken up only because of the April 13 assembly elections. One of the protesters took away the key of a road laying machine.

This led to the clash between the two groups which attacked each other with stones and wooden logs. Soon, a police team arrived at the scene and stopped the brawl.

After police pacified the warring parties, Ritheesh with his supporters came in several vehicles and attacked some villagers, it is alleged. Following the incident, the AIADMK men and people of Sholandur blocked traffic on NH 210, demanding the arrest all of those involved in the attack.
