'Vicky Donor' marches on, 'Hate Story' too hangs on

This donor has been accepted, and how. There were indications of something special in the offering when the First Look of 'Vicky Donor' had arrived in theaters a month ago. However no one (perhaps not even producer John Abraham) in his wildest of dreams would have expected the film to become such a craze. Results are there to be seen as this non-starcast affair has caught fancy of urban cine-goers in a big way. After a steady rise over the first weekend, the film went on to be ultra steady at the box office over the weekdays as well, hence raking in close to 14 crores at the end of it's first week.

What has made the film's run further special is the fact that even in the second weekend, at number of centres it was doing better business than the newest release 'Tezz'. Though till last week one expected that the film would be mighty challenged by the Priyadarshan directed action thriller, it hasn't turned out to be the case with constant appreciation coming in from the audience.

Meanwhile the film is now moving up in its standing as far as box office verdict is concerned and from being an above-average affair, it is all set to be a semi-hit at the least. The word of mouth has stayed on to be very positive which means the film would now very easily cross the 25 crore mark. Though 30 crores for this controlled budget film would be quite a stretch, one waits to see if that indeed happens.

On the other hand 'Hate Story' would have to contend with the average tag as it is mainly being patronised by the single screens. This means that rise in collections is on the lower side since contribution in terms of moolah, despite good foot falls in smaller centres, isn't as massive. With 11 crores coming its way, the film should cross the 15 crores mark. This makes it one of the rarest all-newcomer films with no star backing whatsoever to have managed an audience for itself. It has just one week to score for itself since the release of 'Jannat 2' would eat away its single screen count in a major way.
