'Barfi' is the recent Oscar nominee from Indian movies starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead. It reached such a peak mainly because of the stupendous performance of Ranbir. He was portrayed as a deaf and dumb boy whereas the female lead, Priyanka Chopra was portrayed as an autistic girl.

Among most other Bollywood commercial movies, 'Barfi' proved to be unique with its exceptional artistic move of story. It was this artistic touch which made the movie reach the Oscar level.

Such artistic movies are always welcomed by Tamil audiences and Tamil cinema industry has been experimenting with such scripts since a long time. In fact, director Prathap Pothan did the same long back in his movie 'Meendum Oru Kadhal Kadhai' starring Prathap Pothan and Radhika. He portrayed them as mentally affected ones. Now, it is the Bollywood hit 'Barfi' which is going to be remade in Tamil for which the Male lead is still not confirmed. Tamil audiences have their fingers crossed to know who'll perform Ranbir's character.

The Tamil version of 'Barfi' will be produced by the same production house, UTV motion pictures whereas the director for the remake is also not finalized.
