Mani Ratnam may not be working with Illayaraja for the past two decades, especially after the director launched A R Rahman in 'Roja' in the early 1990s.
But this doesn't mean that Mani's admiration for the maestro has come down. The ace filmmaker expressed it at a recent event in Chennai, which was organised to launch the book 'Conversation with Mani Ratnam'.
"Illayaraja is a genius. I am nothing when I stood before him for the first time, asking him to compose music for my film. From that time, he gave life to my movies with his music," said Mani.
The book by National Award winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan carries his conversations with Mani Ratnam. The director has shared many a thing in the book.
