Commemorating the celebration of a century of Indian cinemas, IBN Live recently conducted a poll for various categories of mass favourites. The best part of the poll is that all the winners belong to South India.
Best Actor: NT Rama Rao
It has been unanimously chosen that Telugu actor NTR is the best actor, that Indian cinema has seen in a hundred years. He won the poll with a majority of 53% votes. Kamal Hassan came second, securing 44% votes. It is to be noted that the names of Superstar Rajinikanth, Ambitabh Bachan and Shahrukh Khan were not included in the list of options.
Best Actress: Sridevi
Sridevi has stolen the hearts of Indians for more than four decades! No wonder she has been labelled the best actress that the industry has seen in a century. Sridevi Kapoor has the distinction of being Bollywood's first lady Superstar. While Sridevi helmed the title, Madhuri Dixit secured 16% of the votes and Savithri bagged 12%.
Best Film: 'Nayagan'
Credited by The Times as one among the 100 Best Indian Films, and retaining the credits of bagging 3 National Film Awards in the year 1988, Kamal starrer, 'Nayagan' has been chosen as the best that India has seen in a hundred years. The film was at a clear majority with 42% stake on the vote bank; 'Sholay' secured 29% of the votes.
Best Director: Mani Ratnam
Who else could it be, if not for this man, who has churned out success after success for three competitive decades! Mani Ratnam has been voted the best director, with 29% of the total votes. Director K Balachandar holds the second position with 18% votes, followed by Satyajit Ray with 14% votes and Shankar with 9% votes.
Best Music Director: Ilayaraja
He was rightly titled 'Isaignani'. In a hundred years of Indian cinema, Ilayaraja is voted to be the best composer with 44% of the population voting for his tunes. AR Rahman has secured 29% votes.
