Starring Dhanush and Parvathy and directed by Bharatbala, the upcoming film 'Mariyaan' will be shot in scenic fishermen locations in Kanyakumari and the rugged terrains of Africa. The film has its musical credits to AR Rahman, who has a handful of projects at the moment, across English, Tamil and Hindi, including Superstar's 'Kochadaiyaan'. 'Mariyaan' is produced by Aascar Ravichandran and is a movie very close to the stalwart's heart.
According to the director, the idea for this movie sparked in his mind when he happened to read an article in a Mumbai daily that highlighted how an Indian worker, held captive for more than a fortnight in Sudan, managed to escape despite having no food, water or weapons. "This was a story, I decided, many should know. Happiness is not a sole emotion, it is an entire process. Although the story sounds gritty, I assure that the film will be a beautifully told story of love, separation, struggle, survival and rise" he added.
The film is based on the story of a man facing adversity, dealing with immense challenges, who struggles to thrive for an existence. This compelling story of survival has National Award winning Appukutty and Salim Kumar to its star cast, apart from other pivotal roles played by Vinayagam, Jagan, Ankur Vikal and Uma Riaz. One of the most renowned European cinematographers, Marc Koninckx of Belgium, of 'Johnny Mad Dog' fame is also a part of the technical crew.
