16 is a sweet age - most people encounter the first love of their life at the age. Yuvan Shankar Raja is no exception to the rule, who fell head over heels in love with his ultimate passion, music - Yuvan launched his first album at the age of sweet 16. Thirty three years ago, this very day, Yuvan was born to the internationally acclaimed and praised composer Ilayaraja. However, despite having a concrete musical background knowledge, passed on to him by none less than the Isaignani himself, and also by Karthik Raja and Bhavatharini to their little brother, Yuvan preferred to take his baby steps on his own, right from his debut, 'Aravindhan'. Having come an enormously long way now, in a shockingly short span of time, Yuvan Shankar Raja is undoubtedly one of the most sought after composers of all times. Having had his first break in 1996 and his big break in Dhanush's debut, 'Thulluvadho Ilamai', Yuvan has clocked 17 years of music composition and more than a 100 movies in all, including his latest 'Biriyani', which is a chart buster.
As a young boy, Yuvan wanted to become a pilot and fly high in the sky, trotting the globe. But as it turns out, he found his inner calling for music soon after his secondary education, and took entirely to tunes, skipping high school and taking up piano lessons from Jacob Master at Musee Musical, which is affiliated to London's Trinity College. Interestingly, his father, the Isaignani, is a gold medalist in classical guitar, from the same college. While father introduced the Tamil audience to a broader spectrum of western music, the son has clinched the title of Rockstar, becoming the youth icon of Tamil music. His association with his cousins, Premgi Amaren and Venkat Prabhu is always a fun loving combination, turning out top class films and excellent music. As personal favourites, Yuvan holds SD Burman, RD Burman, MS Viswanathan, Naushad Ali, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, PB Sreenivas and P Suseela classics close to his heart.
Yuvan was 25 years old when he received his first Filmfare Award for one of his best compositions, '7G Rainbow Colony'. The following year, he became the first (and so far, the only) Indian composer to receive the Cypress International Film Festival Award, for the film 'Raam'. The composer also has two Film Fare Awards, a Tamil Nadu State Film Award, three Vijay Awards and numerous other awards to his credit. In addition to composing, Yuvan Shankar Raja is also an acclaimed playback singer, lending his voice to many chart busters. Composing international favourites across many Indian languages, Yuvan also tours the globe from time to time, for live concerts to the world audience.
With all the accolades and sky high praise, Yuvan prefers to remain his cool yet modest self as he has always has been. And as he happily turns 33 today, we at Indiaglitz wish him a very happy birthday and all success for his future!
