Every cigarette packet caries a preciously inscribed verse that reads "Smoking is injurious to health"; any movie that you watch today will carry a faithful message on screen that say claim smoking cigarettes and the likes, and drinking alcoholic beverages damage health substantially. And most (if not all) of us forget the message and let the words simply pass away in clouds of time.
But director Rajesh has come up with a revolutionary initiative. In his debut, the lead character and the supporting actor were seen inebriated most of the time; in his second film, Rajesh brought it down to occasional drinking; in the third, the hero does not drink at all. Now in his fourth film, 'All In All Azhagu Raja', starring Karthi in the lead, Rajesh has totally eliminated the presence of cigarette smoking or alcohol drinking on screen! And it doesn't end there - Rajesh declared with an air of boldness that in all his future films, no more will there be any scenes that suggest smoking or drinking.
Explaining it out at the audio launch function of 'All In All Azhagu Raja', cinematographer Sakthi Saravanan further reasoned out, "Karthi is a man of no bad habits, and as it is, the story did not require that any scene be shot with the use of cigarette or alcohol. But Rajesh's move is so inspiring, that I and the editor, who have been smoking cigarettes for 25 years, dropped the habit for the film. We feel that if we are able to transform just 100 people out of the many that throng the theatres, it is still a victory in our sense, to have brought about a positive change in the society."
