The audio of ‘Ulliyin Osai’, penned by M Karunanidhi and directed by Ilavenil, was released on the eve of Karunanidhi's 85th birthday in Chennai Monday.
The movie features Vineeth, Keerthi Chawla and Akshaya in lead roles. The grand function at the University centenary Auditorium witnessed the veteran directors K Balachander and Bharathiraja sharing the dais along with lyricist Vairamuthu. Music director of the movie Ilayaraja could not attend the meet.
Speaking on the occasion, 'As a birthday gift, I want the Sethusamudram project. I beg for it,' Karunanidhi said after releasing the music album.
The movie is based on his historical novel Sarapallam Samundi serialized in Murasoli in the 1960s.
'Tamil Nadu was once described as a fertile land, blessed with plenty of water. Today it is facing water scarcity. The State has become an island because of the unfriendly attitude of the neighboring States,' he said.
In these circumstances, the Sethusamudram project was necessary to promote trade in Tamilnadu.
He heaped laurels on Ilavenil for shaping up the movie in an excellent manner and offered congratulations to Vineeth for playing his part well.
Balachander said all should consider the request of the Chief Minster and ensure implementation of the Sethusamudram project.
Director Bharathiraja, who received the album, said he was fortunate to be with Karunanidhi when he was celebrating his 85th birthday. He recalled the journey of Chief Minister in the tinsel town from ‘Manohara’ days to ‘Ulliyin Osai’.
N Jayamurugan of the J Nandhini Arts, senior State Ministers and who's who of Tamil cinema were also present on the occasion.
