Vidyasagar: Music Matters

Friday, June 25, 2010

In this exclusive interview Vidyasagar takes you through his life and times from firs first film till now. He started learning music along with A R Rahman under Dhanraj master. He tells an interesting story about A R Rahman while they were doing music together.

Vidyasagar started his career as an independent music director with Tamil film 'Poomanam' in 1989. From then on he has made some of the best tunes in recent times in films like Mozhi, Chandramukhi, Ghilli, Parthiban Kanavu, Dhool, Dhill, Poovelam Un Vaasam, Vedham, Karna and others.

Vidyasagar says he is well versed with the ranges of almost all the musical instruments and that helps him to choose the right instrument for the songs.

Vidyasagar is under the impression that today’s youth are carried away by the technology and so they are unable to identify what is good music. He feels the youth must be taught of differentiating good music from bad.

He also shares his views on north Indian singers who take most of the space today in Tamil films. He has some valid points here.

And he talks about his classic ‘Malare Mounama’ from Karna which took him to the next level. Listen to all his words.
