    Interview With Actor Prashanth

    Friday, May 14, 2004
Actor Prashanth, son of producer-director and actor Thiagarajan, has been in the industry for over a decade. Beginning his journey in Vaikasi Poranthachu, Prashanth continued to act in few movies which include Balu Mahendra

    Is Tamil filmdom hero centric?

If you say it is a hero centric industry, I would accept it. Right from the times of M K Thyagaraja Bagavathar, Tamil filmdom has been dominated by heroes. Be it Bollywood, Hollywood or even Korean film industry, everywhere it is hero-centric.

On the 'number game' in the industry?

I don't believe in numbers.Younger lots don't believe in number games. For instance, on an average over 80 movies release in Tamil film industry every year. An actor at the most can act in just 5 to 6 films. Just a few movies cannot decide the numero uno spot. Those who know the industry well doesn't believe in number game.

    Your future projects?

After my shock I have Ayudham, along side Sneha. In between,I would be doing a cross-over film to be churned out in both Tamil and English. Meanwhile I would also act in a Tamil movie titled Arun Weds Harini. By the year end, I would venture to Hindi film industry.

Are you choosy in selecting your roles?

I like to do roles which suit my physique.I want to fit the character that I perform. More than everything, I want my character to carry a message to the audience. For instance, my role in Jodi stressed on parents approval for marriages, while in Tamil, a single instance turns a youth into rebel and is all about his ordeals after becoming rebel.

    About your next release Shock?

It would be an adrenalin rush movie filled with excitement and horror. I am confident that people will not resist the temptation to come and see the movie again and again. It will be really scary. The movie apparently a remake of Ram Gopal Verma's Bhoot has undergone slight modifications in the script, which would even leave Ram Gopal Verma awe struck.

What went wrong with your last release Jai?

It was our home production. As a producer, we did all our best. However we had some teething problem to begin with. The project somehow delayed by an year. But rather than looking at the past, I would look at future with more confidence.

Why there were no movies for long time before Jai?

I was doing more movies for my dad's friends rather than for myself. They helped themselves instead of helping me. However, I patiently waited for over three years without committing any project. It was worth a wait as I now have good scripts to work with, which I listened during my break. I was waiting for a good team to work with.It is now realized. All my forthcoming releases would be a real entertainer for masses and adored by my fans.
