    Sindhu Tolaani: Ready for Glamour

    Saturday, August 07, 2004
Sindhu Tolaani made her debut in Sullan. Her bold costumes became the talk of the town. Now she has more offers pouring in from Kodambakkam. She also acted in `Aithe’ the Telugu film. A brief chat with her.

    What is your personal background?

I did my BA (sociology) through correspondence. My first film was the Telugu film Aithe that I did one-year back and now Sullan. I acted in three Hindi serials and did modeling for ad films. I know Kathak and Bharathanatyam .I have done plays in school and from childhood I loved to act.

How did you get the offer for Sullan?

Director Rammana sir had seen me in the Federal Bank and Samsung appliance advts. He asked the agency for my photos and later came over to Mumbai to sign me up.

What kind of role was yours in Aithe?

Aithe was remade in Tamil as Naam. I played Aditi a girl coming from a financially poor girl. I am a painter and breadwinner of the family. I slowly get dragged into a conspiracy hatched by my friends to kidnap a terrorist for the reward money. I wore salwar kameez throughout the film.

    Why the one-year gap?

I wanted to finish my graduation. If I went on doing films then I will never complete my graduation. I wanted to finish my studies and then take to films. Now I am free.

In Sullan your introduction scene is very bold.

I never felt it was vulgar. In the temple I am the pavada dhawani clad girl and in college I strip off everything to my short and jacket. I think it was okay.

    Are you comfortable doing glamour?

Yes .No problem. I also want to do roles, which give scope to act. I am looking for more such roles than the regular heroine with few scenes and five songs.

    What is your hobby?

Watching English movies. My favorite film is Notting Hill and love Julia Roberts.

How is it working in the South movies?

I am very comfortable working in the South movies. Though I don't know the language they make me understand the script and the dialogues. There is no discrimination here.

Anybody else from your family in films?

My younger sister Neha recently won the beauty pageant in USA. She might come to films.
